We have seen various restaurants in diiferent locations offer discounts to those that carry guns legally.

How interesting it woul be if some would give them completely free meals to those OCing. They could simply pick an unannounced date and time or select the next OCer and pay it forward. Think this would cost them nothing - the resultant publicity would more than offset the neglishable expense.

+ it would be a major burr under the anti's saddle. That would make it a twofer.

Grape, we catalog so many things, is there a list of those restaurants that offer discounts to legally armed carriers? And, curiously, how do they ascertain the legality of the carrier?

Unfortunately I know of no formal list, but the link following should get you started (mostl in Va) and thanks for volunteering to set up such a site. :D

"Legally armed" was a poor choice of words on my part. Being private property they of course may set there own rules for the most part.

I think a more pertinent question is Why anyone would think a restaruant needed to.

I would imagine they ascertain the legality of the firearm carrier in the same way that a drivethrough restaurant ascertains the legality of someone driving an automobile. Didn't the Supreme Court rule in US v Black that "... Being a felon in possession of a firearm is not the default status. More importantly, where a state permits individuals to openly carry firearms, the exercise of this right, without more, cannot justify an investigatory detention. Permitting such a justification would eviscerate Fourth Amendment protections for lawfully armed individuals in those states...”?

Why would the mere knowlege of the presense of a firearm, carried openly or not in a state where such carrying is legal, give any presumption of illegal conduct? Do restaurants attempt to ascertain as a normal course of events that two people having a dinner together aren't a kidnapper and his victim or a rapist and his underage snookiewookie?

Owners or managers of said establishment could require proof of legality as a requirement for the prize ( free meal).. Their place, their rules.

Thanks, Grape. That list was helpful, if only to point out how few make it a policy to reward armed patrons with a discount... Hope it catches on...

One of my favorite eating establishements (largest buffet in the area) charges me the minimum even during peak hours when the price goes up and doesn't charge me for drinks. I have gotten free meals there. They like my purdy gun.

Good! Although the Richmond area is a ways to go for a discounted or free meal, y'all down in the Real Virginia (south of the Ni River), might like to know the name of that great restaurant...

I would be happy with just signage welcoming open carriers, most already accept us. It would be nice for it to be clear, and obvious. I certainly tip more to wait staff that compliment us on our firearms. A discount would be gravy, but I would just add it to the tip.

I prefer if I can go in without checking for a sign. Plenty of places to eat around my neck of the woods to eat. I prefer Mom & Pop over chain restaurants. There are a few anti-gun Mom&Pop joints and they do not get my money.

Well; Rifle Colorado might be a bit far for you easterners to travel, but every time I'm near I stop in, get a 10% open carry discount, why? Might say OC goes with the motif. Check out some pics....

Asian Style Buffets

I've openly carried my holstered pistol at several Asian buffets in the metro Atlanta area over the last six years or so with no issues.

At one of my favorite ones, a young lady employee asked me if I was a priest. It took me a couple of moments to realize she was asking me if a "was a police". :)

Where I live resturaunts would lower their profit margins considerably if they gave OC a free meal.

Lot of OC round these here parts.

I had to go into town yesterday. Stopped by a place that has real Miners Meals. The pasty. (Pah-stee) A meat filled little pie that the local Miners took with them for a meal.

This sign graces their store front. Made me happy. I made them happy by walking in OC.

I have delivered 1000’s of bags of potatoes, if not a gazillion, in Hurley, Ironwood, Bessemer and nearby cities in the UP that went into pasties. Most of them went up stairs. The rest, downstairs. In all that time I’ve only ever had one; very bland and thoroughly unimpressed. I will admit a sample of one is probably not a fair assessment.

One customer said they bought them from us cause, we’ll she liked us and knew we got paid by weight. I said no, that’s our competitor, we are hourly and make the same money delivering styrofoam cups and coffee filters. Next week, no potatoes. Boy, was the salesman ever pi$$ed!!!

I’ve never noticed anyone open carrying while there, or any restaurants promoting it. I did go out for breakfast at the local diner OC Monday morning after the double homicide weekend, two blocks away. Had a nice little chat with the owner, no mention of my firearm was made, tho she noticed it. Left a nice tip for a Mexican omelet and coffee. Big snow storm, school cancelled, place was empty other than two other people. Went home and went back to bed.
