The only thing we know is a 107 yr old man is dead. Killed by a SWAT team. That's it. And most likely all we will ever know.

Heck, just being armed is hazardous when cops are around.
GS understands, but tries to keep everything in a realistic perspective.Hence the need to disseminate stories like this. It shouldn't be hazardous at all unless you're at the scene of a shooting. Many, many people feel safe in front of armed strangers as long as they're wearing a uniform. This is crazy. We shouldn't feel any more or less comfortable because someone is wearing a uniform. The police in this country have established a species of priesthood. This is very dangerous and I'm not sure if Grapeshot understands.
Never call the police. They're worthless at best, murderous at worst. What functioning adult couldn't diffuse the situation peacefully with a 107 year old man? No, the old man had to be punished. Disgusting.
I completely agree with you that most problems should be dealt with WITHOUT the presence of a peace officer. If we cannot solve minor differences with each other then I have a dim outlook for the future of the Human race. However, you imply that ALL peace officers are out to get you, which is COMPLETELY false! We can most certainly be helpful in numerous situations.
You seem to forget that there are those of us that became peace officers because we were witnessing a change that we did not like! I did not like watching the peace officer turn into a law enforcement officer with military hardware. I did not like watching peace officers infringing on other people's rights. I did not like hearing about peace officers killing elderly individuals that have been on this rock for over a century! So instead of bashing and complaining I decided to do something about it! You can complain all you want, but unless you actively pursue change it will NOT come! If the good guys replace all of the bad guys in the profession then we will no longer have to hear about such nonsense! You cannot change anything by setting on the side-lines complaining! Get involved and actively pursue the change that you would like to see.

Not everyone can become a LEO and not everyone has the financial means to wade into the political shark tank. A great many citizens are working and have been working for a great many years to restore liberty. Now, if the vast majority of good cops would rat out their bad apple comrades, work to get them disbarred from any association with LE, the goal that you and I seek, bringing back the peace officer, would manifest itself sooner rather than later.I completely agree with you that most problems should be dealt with WITHOUT the presence of a peace officer. ....How do you think that scenario will play out?
How do you know they were roommates?
You are correct sir. I misread the article. It was the room mate who talked to the media. That is my mistake and I own it.
Doesn't change the fact that a person threatened someone with a gun, then fired upon law enforcement when they arrived. To say he wasn't a danger to anyone is a bit of a stretch. After all, he was shooting at them right?
Definitely...because all older people are very forgetful and like Andy Griffith.

I never said he didn't and that is not the thrust of my point. How's about addressing what I actually said? Were the SWAT team members throbbing in anticipation of the 107 yr old tunneling out and escaping their wrath? What was the rational behind a full frontal assault instead of waiting the guy out? Could they have parked a meter maid out front backed up by a bicycle cop for a day or two? Did they try tempting him out with high fiber or fresh batteries for his hearing aide?
It ain't about how dangerous a 107 yr old is. It's about how dangerous and inept a bunch of idiots playing army are.
And thanks for giving me the opportunity to say "thrust of my point".
You should try polling outside your circle of family and friends.
No, but, as I said, there is something about being 107 which makes it incredibly unlikely that the cops had any real compelling reason to get the upper hand on this guy, other than "never let anything go", standard police practice.
"Who gives a **** about preserving the peace? That guy gave us an excuse!"
