I don't know what it is about CC permits that turns people into idiots.
...
I try to be polite, and not indicate I think they are idiots, but it sure tears down the claim that trained CCers are more safe.
I don't what it is that causes some folks to be so hostile to concealed or discrete carry or to obtaining a permit to comply with local and federal laws (rather than choosing to carry antiques). I expect such juvenile comments from gun haters. But from self-proclaimed RKBA supporters it is most unfortunate. Certainly everyone here is sufficiently well educated and intelligent to understand the difference between anecdotal experiences and actual statistics. There are now
several million permit holders in this nation including many of us who choose to OC at least part of the time while carrying.
The link report shows that permit holders are many times less likely than the general population and police officers to be convicted of crimes including crimes involving firearms. Demonstrably, there is NOTHING about obtaining a permit or getting training that causes anyone to become an idiot.
Some folks are simply stupid and have not yet received sufficient training to overcome their stupidity. I suspect there are those who are so stupid or evil that there is no practical amount of training that would get them over their issues. Hence, the need for police, courts, and jails/prisons when someone violates the rights of another.
Like most here, I look forward to a day when my RIGHTS to own and carry firearms are fully respected nationwide without any need whatsoever to obtain permits, pass background checks, or otherwise endure restrictions on that right. But until we get there, holding a widely recognized permit or two provides practical benefits well in excess of choosing to carry an antique cap and ball revolver. In addition to the personal benefits of being able to legally carry a modern firearm into schools and to legally carry discretely when social or other situations indicate advantages or preferences to do so, permits provide significant social benefits including the incremental political wins that have helped half a dozen States move to permit-free / Constitutional carry of firearms. Over the last 30 years, the increasing availability of permits to carry helped prevent nearly countless crimes of violence saving innocent life and limb while we work toward greater political, social, and legal acceptance of permit free carry.
So tone back the disparaging comments about CC permits.
