The place where they shoot children with toy guns.

We will be visiting during early September. While I don't plan to OC, it would be nice to meet up or to go shooting.

TIA.

Well goshamighty. NOBODY says NOTHING?

I did a google search for ranges and found at least ten in all of northern California, so I can scratch that idea.

Apparently you guys don't do meet-ups, either.

Well: thanks for all the help, and stop by when you are in NOVA, where we can pretend that we are still Americans!

In the south bay I know of three ranges, but definitely not too close.

Santa Rosa is for "The Birds."

Actually, IIRC, SR is only mentioned at the very end, on the radio announcement.

SR is also for "Smile", "Peggy Sue," "Pollyanna," in which the friend of a friend played the girl who ran away from Kevin Corcoran, at the beginning, and, my personal favorite, "Shadow of a Doubt," also by Hitchcock. And likely others, but who is counting?

nemo,

"Good Evening..." (as per the Intro to the Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV show, 1955-62)

Yes, I know Santa Rosa was mentioned only a few times, but it still allowed me to work in the reference to the movie (which I was desperately trying to do). And also yes, I know the movie was set in Bodega Bay (but the "school" was elsewhere -- in Bodega). But really, IIRC, toward the end of the movie, the birds were headed in Santa Rosa's direction so...

Too bad the original movie buildings are gone -- by fire or remodeled beyond recognition (but that's "progress" I guess) -- since Bodega Bay could have benefitted from them being intact as they still get "The Birds" tourists visiting even 51 (!) years later.

Caw-caw... :)

Sorry for wandering off-topic...

[edited 8-23 to correct # of years since movie came out]

It took me a while to get over there, but I have found LOTS of activity. Under a NorCal heading is a request for locations; quite a few seem to be in the SR area. Great!

After we visit SR, we plan to head up to Port Angeles. I will honk as we pass Bainbridge!

You can hardly blame Bodega Bay for lost some of its older buildings: SR used to have a Carnegie library (torn down on flimsy excuse, though the family still has a piece of the marble) and a fine old courthouse (torn down on flimsier excuse), which could have made a fine historical downtown area without much effort. But the town fathers were a bigger set of dunces than average.

nemo,

Forgot to mention Hitchcock's cameos. Was it in the Birds in which he exited the store while leading two scotties? And I am more sure that he was sitting with his back to the camera while in the train, facing the older couple who was discussing the situation.

Annnd maybe a thread in the Washington sub fora

there is a thread on calguns titled 707 sonoma county banter in which you will find all the shooters in the Santa Rosa area. there is a $10 all day range called circle S just west of Petaluma. There is also a plot of pubic land you can shoot on north of SR but you will probably need a calgunner to take you there, cause its not known as a range. p.s. you can purchase wines at vineyards that aren't sold outside of the area. which would be spectacular gifts.

Yes...just as Tippi Hedron was entering.

Now, I will Cease & Desist with this "birds" stuff as it's probably driving others here "batty."

;-)

We will likely come up 101 on the 15th. When we get to, say, Hood Canal, I will honk, once; that's all you get, bunky. We don't plan to stay on the peninsula long, just another day or two. If you have something, then post it here, would be safest, probably. Otherwise, where on the Wa fora?

If you go passing through Virginia, PLEASE advertise with a new thread. Winchester is rather sparsely populated, but I will do what I can!

It took me the longest time to find the 707 thread, as it appears only after one has signed in. The group does not seem to be very focused, so I will have to track it, daily. I guess that I should also ask about the road damage due to the earthquake; we normally come in 37, and that seems to be jumbled.

OK: send a phone, PM, if you prefer, and we can phone at some appropriate time before we get there. The Lucky Dog would seem to be on or visible from 101. I will phone only if we make at a convenient time (I am travelling with a sleepy head who ensures that we do not leave anywhere early). I have not been in Washington for ~25 years: can I OC without permission? If not, then not a problem.

Bunky comes from an old radio program to which my folks would listen, back in the fifties, though I am sure that the program dates back to an earlier time (I should google or youtube it). The narrator speaks to his bunky about the really hard times he is having then rouses him up with lots of good advice: it is all humorous, but over the head of a kid still in the single digits. I remember only the bunky part, nothing about any of the monologues. The same way, I remember only the intro to chicken-man, not much of the skits.
