Residency Requirement

I may be moving to Nebraska for a job. I have permits in two states. I read that once you become a Nebraska resident, you must apply for a Nebraska permit as other permits are no longer valid. The only problem is that you must wait 180 days after becoming a resident to apply. However, I did find a statute stating that you may apply for a permit immediately if you already have one from another state.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the state patrol aware of the way to waive the 180 day requirement? How long does it take to receive the permit after applying?

I'd hate to be permitless for 180+ days.
