I am wondering if I will be able to carry, of any type, in Maine without having a permit?

I am planning a camping trip and would like the protection should wild life be more interested in me than I am with them.

Please enlighten me on the laws surrounding this. :D

Maine state law would allow you to open carry long gun or handgun at age 20 without a permit. OCDO rules do not allow for advocating long gun open carry.

I thought that Maine allowed OC w/o a permit at 17 years of age.

No OC or CC in a vehicle w/o a permit though, I am told.

Sorry if I was confusing. I was answering his specific question of whether HE could carry at age 20. You are correct though. I don't have time to research the statute at the moment, but I believe possession of a handgun under 18 is still restricted. I'll cite later.

INiiCK:

Maine State Law 17-A 554(A) and (B) Govern Firearm Transfers to Minors.

Maine Law is Clear in that 18 is The Age at which a Person can have a Handgun and 16 is The Age at which a Person can have a Long Gun.

Maine Law 25-2001(A)1 also Proscribes 18 as The Age where a Person can Apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit.

Thanks so far! Now here's the real kicker...

Is it like some states where there are constraints on how you can OC? Such as: No one in the chamber, cannot be loaded or anything to that degree?

No restrictions on condition of carry - none.
